Visiting the studio

Do I need to know anything about coffee?

No. That is the whole point. Siri has spent thirteen years across the coffee supply chain and has no interest in making anyone prove they belong. Come curious. That is the only requirement.

What is a studio visit?

Thirty five dollars. A welcome drink at the door, a walk through the house, snacks, and two coffees you choose yourself. Plan on it feeling unhurried.

What does choose your own adventure mean?

There are five to ten coffees on the bar at any given time. You pick a bean, then you pick how you want it. Filter through any of several brewers, espresso, milk drinks, alt milks. There is usually a playful signature drink on the side. If that is too many decisions, hand it over and Siri picks for you.

What is the studio actually like?

Small, and genuinely a working roasting room. The machine runs while you visit and bags get filled. The seating feels like someone's living room because it basically is one. Music is world, folk and Latin. Peaceful but upbeat.

Is there a record player in the studio?

No. The room cannot fit a vinyl setup. Records come out at events, which is a different thing entirely.

I have a dietary restriction.

Tell us when you book. We ask everyone.

Where are you?

216 S Tremont Street, Oceanside. Color Magic is one room inside Dear Tomorrow, a working art house. Woodworking, stained glass, watercolor, plant dye, book clubs and film nights, artists in residence upstairs. Ours is the room that smells like roasting coffee.

The coffee

What kind of coffee do you roast?

Whole bean, small batch, seasonal. Nano lots, micro lots and rare varieties, which means the quantities are small and the list rotates.

What does relationship sourcing mean?

Most coffee is bought lot by lot, the cheapest acceptable option each season. We work the other way. The same producers and the same importers, season after season, several of them going on five plus years. The question at the end of every harvest is the same one. Can we keep working together.

Where does your coffee come from?

Central and South America, East Africa, India and the Philippines, depending on the season. What matters more than the map is that we buy from the same people year after year rather than whoever is cheapest that harvest.

Why does the coffee list keep changing?

Coffee is seasonal and these are small lots. When one is gone, it is gone. That is the trade for buying this way.

I do not know what to order.

Start with a gift card and let them choose, or come taste a few side by side before you commit to a bag.

Events and booking us

What is the difference between your events and hiring you?

Direction of travel. Events we host, you come to. Cuppings, workshops, pop-ups and nights at the house. Hiring us means we come to you, with the coffee cart, the turntables, or both.

Do you really only play vinyl?

Yes. Vinyl only, two turntables, and Siri and Kevin play together. It is a specific vibe and we will tell you honestly if it does not suit your event.

Can we book just the coffee, or just the music?

Either. Or both.

Do you do workshops for private groups?

Yes. Tell us the group and the occasion and we will build something around it.

Still wondering?

Send the question over. Siri answers them herself.
