Ratnagiri Estate – India
In the misty mountains of South India, Ratnagiri Estate has been tended by the Patre family for nearly a century. What began in 1927 with Mr. Shivappaiya’s first coffee trees has grown into one of India’s most celebrated estates—a place where tradition and innovation meet in every cup.
Each harvest begins with ripe, hand-selected cherries, which are given an ozone bath before entering a carefully controlled fermentation. The process unfolds in two stages: first, a 48-hour anaerobic fermentation in a bio-fermenter with a mossto culture, followed by a gentle 20-hour aerobic fermentation before being fully washed and dried on raised beds under the sun. The result is a coffee that feels alive—complex, clean, and expressive of its vibrant origin.
Ratnagiri, meaning “Pearl Mountain,” sits within the Western Ghats, a lush biodiversity hotspot and home to a nearby tiger reserve. The farm thrives in harmony with nature, shaded by forest canopy and sustained by generations of knowledge.
Led today by Ashok and Divya Patre alongside a devoted team, Ratnagiri Estate continues to push the boundaries of Indian specialty coffee—honoring the land, the people, and the endless possibilities within the bean.
